Cool Conditions to Start the Week in the Northeastern U.S.

3 months agoThose in the Northeast will enjoy a cool start to the new work week. However, do not make the mistake of thinking that summer is in the rearview mirror. The forecast is calling for the warmth to make a return appearance to this corner of the country by the middle and end of the week. Here is when you can expect the temperatures to start an upward trajectory in the Northeast as well as what is in store until that time.
Rain Lingers for Parts of Interior Northeast and Beyond
It was a soggy end to the weekend in the Northeast. While conditions will begin to dry out on Monday, a new influx of cool air from Canada will keep the temperatures in check early in the week. This will be a nice change from the humid air that has hovered over the Ohio Valley and the Northeast for the past several days.
Dew points across the region have climbed into the upper 60s and the low 70s since last week, creating the sticky conditions for the Northeast and over into the mid-Atlantic coastal areas. This humidity combined with a slow-moving storm system that moved in from the Great Lakes over the weekend to deliver sporadic rainfall and challenging weather for outdoor activities for many of the major cities in its path.
This rain will linger across some areas of the interior Northeast and New England on Monday, however, the bulk of the moisture will push out to sea by Tuesday. For example, Syracuse, New York will experience a dreary Monday with scattered rain showers that could turn into torrential downpours for a brief period of time. Temperatures will cool down when compared to Sunday, maxing out at about 70 degrees with readings slipping into the low 50s overnight. It will be slightly breezy with winds coming from the west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph.
The gray pattern will stretch into the eastern Great Lakes. Buffalo is predicted to be rainy with the clouds lingering even after the precipitation clears out. It will be a chilly mid-August day for the city along the shores of Lake Erie with a forecast high of just 66 degrees and winds whipping around at speeds of 10 to 20 mph from the north-northwest.
New England should also prepare for the rain to linger another day. Rain showers in the morning will evolve into the threat of storms in the afternoon. The mercury will climb into the upper 70s with lows landing at about 62 degrees.
