As National Park Week kicks off, Yellowstone National Park has officially opened for the 2025 summer season—despite lingering wintry conditions. On the morning of Friday, April 18, select roads and entrances in the iconic park reopened to the public, marking the beginning of seasonal operations. More roads are expected to open in the coming weeks as weather permits.

Although it’s being called the “summer season,” it won’t feel like it in Yellowstone. Cold, early spring weather is holding on tight, with overnight temperatures expected to drop into the teens and 20s Fahrenheit throughout National Park Week, which runs from April 19 to April 27.

Daytime highs will remain chilly, ranging from the 30s to low 40s Fahrenheit—below the average for mid-April.

By late weekend, a weather system moving across the interior Northwest may bring rain and snow showers to the area. Additional rounds of snow flurries are possible mid- to late week. Park visitors should keep a close eye on the forecast and pack accordingly.
