Lyrid Meteor Shower 2025: Peak Viewing Times, Cloud Cover & Where to See It Best

Alexis Thornton

Heads up, stargazers! One of the most reliable (and oldest) meteor showers of the year is lighting up the night sky—and the Lyrids are peaking soon. Expect shooting stars, bright flashes, and maybe even a few fireballs if the weather cooperates.

This year’s Lyrid meteor shower reaches its peak overnight Monday, April 21 into Tuesday, April 22, with activity continuing until around April 26. But there’s a catch: the weather might not play nice for everyone.

🌧️ Will the Weather Cooperate?

Storms and cloud cover could spoil the show for folks in parts of the northern and eastern U.S., where overcast skies are in the forecast during peak viewing hours. But don’t worry—if you’re in the South or out West, you might be in luck! Many areas from the central U.S. to the West Coast are expected to have clear skies for prime stargazing.

Wherever you are, check your local forecast before heading out—and maybe pack a blanket just in case it gets chilly.
