West Nile is a virus that primarily spreads through mosquito bites. What’s tricky about this disease is that West Nile virus symptoms don’t often manifest. In fact, only one in five people will show symptoms, including a rash, fever, or muscle aches. Treatment plans vary based on the severity of the situation.
West Nile Virus Symptoms
Most people who become infected with this disease don’t show any symptoms of West Nile virus. Those that do, may suffer from a range of uncomfortable effects, including:
Body aches
Joint pain
Fever
Headaches
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea
Rash
Swollen lymph nodes
Sore throat
More severe West Nile symptoms include neck stiffness, disorientation, muscle weakness, and even paralysis. Typically, however, the symptoms tend to be a bit flu-like and, again, less than 1% of the people infected with this disease develop any of those more severe nervous system symptoms.
