Severe Storms Heading Over Great Plains Region This Weekend

4 months agoResidents of the Great Plains should prepare themselves, as a series of severe thunderstorms are set to travel over the region, starting Thursday night and persisting through Friday night. These storms could bring potential disruptions and destruction, with some locally gusty and drenching weather possibly lingering into the weekend.
Earlier this week, Missouri had similar storms when flash floods, stemming from multiple inches of rain, swept through areas just outside St. Louis on July 16. This weather event saw cars being washed away in an office parking lot, highlighting the ferocity of these storms.
While meteorologists do not anticipate an outright severe weather outbreak, the Plains will nevertheless experience thunderstorms that may pose significant risks. Thunderstorms could turn severe through the end of the week over parts of the Plains, but the main threats will be from strong straight-line wind gusts, hail, and flash flooding rather than a significant number of tornadoes, noted meteorologists.
That being said, the likelihood of tornadoes remains low, although the possibility of an isolated tornado or two cannot be dismissed entirely.
