Severe Storms Back on Deck This Weekend for the Nation's Heartland

5 days agoRight on time, it is setting up to be another weekend of severe weather for the central U.S. The potentially dangerous storms will continue the trend that has been set up over the last few weekends for this part of the country.
Another Round of Severe Weather Headed to the Central U.S.
More than a dozen states are in the potential impact zone for severe thunderstorms and the threat of tornadic activity. This system will bring a variety of impacts up through the gut of the nation, ranging from snow in the northern tier to thunderstorms to the south. High winds will also continue to present the risk of wildfires in areas dealing with dry conditions.
Three major storms have roared through the central U.S. thus far in March. The first event erupted on March 3, lasting three days before it finally dissipated. The second weather maker hit from March 14 through March 16. The third event struck a few days later when some areas were still recovering from the earlier strikes. The three storms produced over 220 tornadoes and almost 1,900 incident reports encompassing strong winds and large hail.
While March is notoriously known for being a volatile month of weather, this rash of severe impacts is higher than usual. To provide a little context, the number of severe weather incidents in 2025 is nearly double the number of reports in March of 2024. The 2025 figures include almost four times the number of tornadoes seen the previous year.
