Notable November Tropical Weather Events Throughout History
Alexis Thornton
3 weeks agoNovember marks the last month of the official hurricane season, a time period running from June 1 through November 30. While tropical activity predictably slows down during this month, it is still not the time to let down your guard.
The petering out of the season pairs with a change in where you can expect any lingering tropical weather events to take root. Due to the winds present this time of the year, the most likely area of tropical development is over the southern Gulf of Mexico and across into the Caribbean.
Records kept since 1850 indicate that 135 tropical storms have been active during the month of November. Of that number, about 75 came to life after November 1. Read on for some of the more notable November tropical weather events.
Hurricane Nicole - 2022
Only three hurricanes originating in the Atlantic have made a direct strike on the U.S. during this month. Most recently, Hurricane Nicole made landfall south of Cape Canaveral, Florida as a Category 1 storm. What is most disruptive about Nicole is that it came ashore just six weeks after Hurricane Ian sent heavy rain and strong winds across Florida. As a result, Floridians were still recovering from Ian when Nicole hit, exacerbating the damage.
