Right on cue, spring is featuring the classic battle of warm and cold temperatures. The Northeast will be at the center of the battle this weekend, with some areas seeing temperature readings that are reminiscent of summer while other areas are left shivering. Here are the details of this roller coaster of a weather pattern.

Weekend Forecast Setting Up to be a Wild Ride in the Northeast

You are going to find a little bit of everything in the Northeast this weekend. While some areas will be dealing with ice and snow, other communities will enjoy a downright toasty forecast with temperatures that climb into the 80s. The colder fringe of the region will see the mercury top out in the 30s and 40s.

Forecasters are warning that the line of demarcation between the two competing weather patterns will shift throughout the weekend, giving those caught in the middle a taste of both conditions. The result will be temperature swings by as much as 50 degrees between locations less than 100 miles apart. The presence of winds will influence the wild swings in the temperatures.

The part of the Northeast most likely to see the drastic changes throughout the weekend includes New York state and up into the central and southern portions of New England. This is where the winds will be the most erratic, triggering the vast fluctuations of temperatures within a compact zone.

Let's look at a few detailed metro area forecasts to illustrate this point. Boston is forecast to see highs top out in the mid 40s on Saturday and Sunday under cloudy skies. The city will also be under the threat of scattered rain showers throughout the weekend, adding to the chill. It will be a breezy stretch of days in Boston with winds out of the east at 10 to 15 mph.
