The end of the continual winter weather storm train is in sight but not before another blast of cold temperatures and moisture hits the Atlantic Seaboard. Here are the latest details of this midweek weather event.

Mid-Atlantic Next Up for Major Snow Event

Measurable snow and the threat of ice will impact the mid-Atlantic and beyond on Wednesday and Thursday as yet another winter storm moves into the region. The central and eastern U.S. has been dealing with persistent rounds of winter storms over the last few weeks with some models suggesting that this latest event could end up producing the highest accumulation of snow of the season for the mid-Atlantic. The hardest-hit areas could record over a foot of fresh snow.

Winter storm warnings are in place for a wide swath of land stretching from Kansas and over to the East Coast. Additionally, winter storm watches have been issued for parts of the mid-Atlantic. A number of winter weather advisories are now in effect for the Central Plains states located on the fringes of the primary impact zone.

A new influx of Arctic air diving down from Canada will work to fuel the development of the snow and ice. The snow and ice are already causing issues in the Plains, the Ozarks, and over into the mid-Mississippi Valley. The snow is lingering throughout the northern and central portions of the Rockies after more significant accumulation fell on Monday.

By the end of the day Tuesday, the snow is forecast to creep into the mid-South region and over in the mid-Atlantic. This will put several major metropolitan areas out east in the bullseye for heavy snow on Wednesday and Thursday.

The colder air filtering down from the north will send the storm farther to the south than the previous winter weather systems. The chill in the air and the shot of wintry precipitation will feel jarring across the Carolinas after experiencing readings in the 60s over the weekend.
