The Northeast should be ready for wide fluctuations in temperatures in the days ahead as the constant struggle between spring and winter continues into April. The takeaway is that residents will need to stay abreast of the daily forecast for their area, as it is likely to change significantly from day to day. Here is a look at this weather roller coaster.

April Weather Whiplash Settles in Over the Northeast

Mother Nature is going to take those in the Northeast for a ride in the coming days with chaotic temperatures and regular surges of rain, ice, and snow to add to the uncertainty. A train of storms stretching from the Gulf Coast and the South up into Atlantic Canada will serve to send the mercury flying in all directions. The mercury will change noticeably in a period of just hours in some cases.

This weather pattern is similar to what the region already experienced last weekend. The time between March and April is typically when these wild fluctuations in temperatures and precipitation forms are the most common.

The change from Wednesday to Thursday will be stark in some of the major urban areas in the northeastern corner of the U.S. For instance, New York City will see the mercury climb into the low 70s on Thursday despite the presence of morning rain showers and cloud cover. The Big Apple will see more rain move into the area after midnight, amounting to about a quarter of an inch of rainfall. It will be a bit breezy in the city with winds coming from the south-southwest at 10 to 15 mph.
