Major Storm Pushing From West to East Packing Snow and Rain

4 weeks agoA cross-country storm that got its start in California early in the week is going to continue to push to the east in the days ahead, impacting Thanksgiving week travel for a large part of the Rockies, the Midwest, and the Northeast. Here is the latest on this far-reaching weather maker.
Sierra Nevada First Up for Cross-Country Storm System
It is shaping up to be a messy few days for millions of Americans. A weather maker that pushed in from the Pacific Ocean late in the week took aim at the Sierra Nevada in California to start the week. Snowfall measured in feet is falling across this mountain range as the system sets its sights on the Intermountain West next. Forecasters are warning that the moisture and energy associated with this system will be enough to trigger significant travel disruptions.
Donner Pass along Interstate 80 in California may be the first victim of this storm. This heavily traveled roadway is under a winter storm warning with snow expected to continue through Tuesday night. The sun will come out on Wednesday, however, temperatures will remain right about the freezing level for afternoon highs.
The system is predicted to move at a fast clip, limiting its moisture in any given area but putting more people in its path. There are a number of factors at play that will determine where the snow falls and what areas escape with just rain.
