Hurricane Ernesto Blows Over Bermuda
Ernesto bore into Bermuda on Saturday, making landfall with sustained winds of 85 mph and gusts hitting speeds up to 105 mph. The strong winds from Ernesto stretch hundreds of miles from the center of the feature, resulting in strong rip currents and other rough sea conditions for the U.S. Atlantic Seaboard.
The storm first churned over Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands earlier in the week, unleashing flooding and leaving thousands of people without power as temperatures surged. When skirting past Bermuda, the storm brought a gust of 63 mph to Bermuda International Airport. The island picked up rainfall between 6 and 12 inches throughout the day.
The tropical storm conditions lingered across this region through Saturday evening before finally moving to the north. The storm surge also presented concerns, triggering coastal flooding as the storm roared through this part of the Caribbean.
