June 2024 has experienced multiple remarkable weather occurrences and major climatic changes that have affected the world significantly. Tornados and their impact have been felt in the United States, with many of them resulting in extreme impacts in the Midwest. India has recently also experienced one of the severest heat waves ever, with many people losing their lives and thousands getting ill. Knowledge of these events is crucial since they demonstrate the growing number and severity of extreme weather caused by climate change. These key events are discussed in this article, along with their consequences and potential future outcomes.

Tornado Outbreaks in the United States

June 2024 stands out as a month with relatively high instances of tornadoes in the United States, primarily in the Midwest and southern parts. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), there were numerous tornadoes, and several states were severely affected. This is because warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico meets the cooler and dry air from Canada, resulting in severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, especially in the spring and early summer.

The Midwest region, commonly known as the Tornado Alley, experienced several tornados. Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma recorded multiple tornadoes, with some of them falling under EF-2 and EF-3, which range from 111 to 165 mph wind speeds. These tornadoes ripped off roofs and destroyed homes, businesses, and farms, as well as disrupting communication systems. The South also had its fair share of tornado incidences, with Alabama and Mississippi recording tornado touchdowns that resulted in property damages and power failures.
