Heatwave in Store for the Northeast Beginning Next Week

7 months agoEnjoy the moderate temperatures in the Northeast while they last. Forecasters are warning that the first official heatwave of the year is bearing down on the region just in time for the start of the astronomical summer. Here is a closer look at when this heat will arrive and just how hot it is expected to get.
First Heatwave of the Year Ready to Strike the Northeast
Unseasonably hot temperatures are just around the corner for the Northeast. While it may feel cool and comfortable this week, that is all about to change as a heat dome slides up to the north and takes up residence in this corner of the country. The upcoming weather pattern will also translate to significantly drier days when compared to the unsettled conditions of the past few weeks.
A southward dip in the jet stream will mean that temperatures will remain on the pleasant side for the balance of the week. The zone of high pressure associated with this dip will also keep the tropical moisture coming to life in the Gulf of Mexico well to the south of the northeastern U.S. in the coming days.
The mercury will continue to trend within a few degrees of the historical average through the middle of the week. This means temperatures will hover around the 70-degree mark in Maine and down into the mid 80s across the Delmarva Peninsula. The dry air and low humidity levels will also contribute to cooler temperatures during the evening and overnight hours.
