Heat Wave Setting Up Across California for Holiday Week

The nation's hot spot this week will be in the popular summer tourist state of California. The mercury could challenge daily records as the heat builds over the western U.S. in the coming days.

Here is what you need to know about this building heat wave.

California Braces for Heat Wave

The heat is on across the Golden State heading into the Fourth of July holiday. What will make this particular heat wave so dangerous will be its longevity, expected to last for days. The hardest-hit communities will see the temperatures eclipse 110 degrees for multiple days.

This zone includes a large portion of the Sacramento Valley and into the San Joaquin Valley. The temperatures began the upward trajectory over the weekend with the trend forecast to linger through the week and into the weekend.

An Excessive Heat Warning is in place for an area extending from Sacramento Valley and San Joaquin Valley and into communities located inland from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Other portions of Central California are also under this warning. The warning encompasses the dates Tuesday, July 2 through Saturday, July 6.
