Hawaii has been put on alert about the possibility of two tropical weather makers headed in that direction. Here is the latest on what is going on in the Eastern Pacific.

Eastern Pacific Brimming with Tropical Activity

The Eastern Pacific has come to life in recent days, creating two systems that are moving closer to Hawaii. The first system that forecasters are monitoring is a tropical rainstorm that was born early in the week and is now a tropical depression.

As of early Thursday, this depression was spinning about 950 miles to the southeast of Hilo, Hawaii on the Big Island.

Should this feature continue to grow and reach the status of a tropical storm, it will take on the name Hone. The forecast models indicate that it will intensify and potentially even reach the designation of a hurricane as it moves into warmer waters.

Most storms that form in this part of the basin tend to move to the south of the Hawaiian islands. However, the islands could be under the gun for flooding rainfall should the storm remain intact and move close enough to land.

While the forecast is not the best news for tourists, there is no doubt that the islands could use the moisture. Much of Hawaii is under the designation of a drought. However, the storm could also whip up winds that increase the threat of wildfire danger over the already dry terrain.

Hawaii should prepare for some degree of impacts even if the storm churns a large distance away from the islands. Rough seas and breezes will continue to build through the weekend regardless of how close the storm approaches.
