Florida Prepares for Arrival of Tropical Wave by End of Weekend

4 months agoThe Atlantic basin has entered a relatively quiet period of activity thanks to the prevalence of a large mass of Saharan dust circulating over the ocean. However, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are predicting that a new tropical wave will push through the basin and into Florida in the days ahead. Here is a look at what is happening in the tropics and what this may mean for the U.S.
Tropical Wave in the Central Atlantic Under Watchful Eye of Hurricane Experts
The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season got off to a hot start in June, riding that wave into early July when Hurricane Beryl came to life and eventually made landfall in Texas as a Category 1 storm on July 8. A large amount of dry and dusty air is now circulating over the tropical Atlantic this week, putting a lid on potential development in the short-term.
But experts at the NHC are monitoring a tropical wave that is likely to impact Florida beginning on Sunday and lasting through Tuesday. As is typical, the tropical wave in question came off of the coast of Africa, merging with an area of low pressure to create areas of rain showers and thunderstorms.
