2 days agoAn earthquake startled New Englanders awake on Monday morning as it sent ripples across the region. The seismic event struck at about 9:22am and was felt from the northernmost points of Augusta, Maine, to the southern coast of Providence, Rhode Island, and even extended into parts of Pennsylvania.
Epicenter Located Off the New England Coast
The USGS initially reported the quake at 4.1 but later changed their mind, putting the magnitude at a still fairly significant 3.8. It put the quake's epicenter approximately 4.5 miles southeast of York Harbor, Maine - off the rock ribbed coast of New England.
Boston Residents Feel the Shake
The earthquake's impacts were not confined to coastal communities, however, as residents in the Boston metropolitan area also reported feeling the tremors. Chona Guiang, a meteorologist, said the shaking felt like "a clatter upstairs" in her Arlington, Massachusetts home northwest of Boston.
