Early Week Warmup Will be Brief for the Northeastern U.S.

Back-and-Forth Weather Pattern Heading into the New Week for the Northeast
It has been a roller coaster of weather for the Northeast over the last few weeks. This trend is expected to continue through the new week as another influx of warmer temperatures will quickly give way to cooler weather as the week progresses. Forecasters are warning that the next batch of chilly air could damage sensitive plants and vegetation by Easter weekend.
It was a cool and rainy start to the weekend for much of the mid-Atlantic, the Great Lakes, and the Northeast. That is all about to change as a warming trend will first get underway in the Midwest and the Ohio Valley and eventually spread into the northeastern U.S.
You can expect temperatures to inch up into the 60s across cities such as Chicago and Detroit to start the new work week. For instance, Detroit is expecting temperatures to jump about 10 degrees from Sunday's highs to reach the mid to upper 60s by Monday. The Motor City will see cloudy skies with a slight chance of a rain shower at this time.
It will be just as warm in locations to the east with New York City forecast to hit a high of about 64 degrees on Monday. An area of high pressure setting up over the region will usher in the return of sunshine and more springlike conditions. Temperatures will rise between 5 and 10 degrees higher than what the end of the weekend saw. This will translate to readings that are a few degrees over the historical average for the middle of April.
