Last Storm in a Trio Making Its Way Across Northern U.S. to End the Week
Yet another major winter weather maker will bring heavy snow to southeastern Canada and the northern reaches of the Midwest and the Northeast in the days ahead. The storm will dip down toward the Great Lakes region on Friday after originating in the northwestern corner of Canada. The system is then forecast to push into the St. Lawrence Valley over the weekend, unleashing another round of wintry precipitation to this part of the country.
It has already been an active few weeks in terms of snow accumulation across central and southeastern Ontario, southern Quebec, and northern portions of New York and New England. The constant barrage of storms in February accounted for two times the historical average snowfall amounts for some communities.
For example, Plattsburgh, New York, has measured almost 25 inches of snow as of February 25 for the month. This compares to the monthly average of 13 inches. The Canadian city of Toronto has picked up 28 inches during this time period, compared to the average for the entire month of 15 inches. It has been particularly snowy for Montreal and Ottawa. Both of these major metro areas in Canada have seen almost 40 inches this month alone.
