The hits keep coming for the central and eastern U.S. with another storm system in the works for the middle of the next week. Here is a look at what forecasters are warning could be a major snowstorm for some of the nation's largest cities.

Details of Midweek Winter Storm Becoming More Clear

It may sound like the forecast is a broken record but another winter weather maker is indeed bearing down on millions of Americans. This midweek storm is forecast to impact a wide swath of land stretching from the southern Plains and over to the Interstate 95 corridor in the northeastern corner of the country. Should all of the right ingredients come together, this could end up being a whopper of a storm.

The system will be fueled by a new batch of Arctic air coming down from the north. The storm will also be amplified due to its position as the caboose in the long train of systems that have roared across the country throughout the month of February. History has taught us that the last storm in a series is often the most powerful.

The influx of cold air from Canada will dip down across the Plains, the Midwest, and the Northeast to start the new work week. Forecasters have been warning for days that the latest Arctic blast could deliver the coldest temperatures for the year, a season that has already experienced record-breaking cold readings.

The Arctic air will also support the development of lake-effect snow across some parts of the Great Lakes early in the week.
