Arctic Air Intrusion to Send the Temperatures Plummeting
A blast of Arctic air is going to dip down from Canada and into parts of the U.S. this week just in time for the holiday season to kick off. The cold air will arrive by the end of the week and heading into the weekend, ushering in temperatures that feel more like the dead of winter than the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The bitter cold will feel even chillier due to the unseasonably warm fall that most of this part of the nation has experienced.
This is the time to get out and winterize and weatherproof your home if you have not done so. Temperatures are forecast to plunge below zero for portions of the Dakotas and Minnesota by Thanksgiving.
While the worst of the cold will remain in the northern U.S., readings will drop near the freezing mark around the Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex, marking the first of the season. For instance, Dallas is expecting overnight lows in the mid 30s on Thursday with readings in the upper 30s for the weekend. Afternoon highs will fall from the upper 70s on Wednesday to top readings in the mid 50s on Thursday and Friday. After flirting with the 60-degree mark on Saturday, the long holiday weekend will close out with a high of just 54 degrees on Sunday. This trend will continue into the start of the new week until temperatures begin to inch up on Tuesday.
