Another Severe Weather Outbreak on the Horizon for Much of U.S.
Alexis Thornton
6 hours agoThe central and eastern U.S. is preparing for another threat of severe weather this week, just days after a rash of storms and tornadoes ripped through a large swath of the nation. Here is the latest on the developing situation as well as a look back at some of the destruction from the deadly weekend.
Ingredients in Place for More Severe Weather
The good news is that the upcoming severe weather pattern is not expected to be as volatile as what the U.S. experienced over the weekend when at least 42 people were killed at the hands of the stormy conditions. The bad news is that the anticipated storms will still be capable of causing significant property damage in the days to come.
A new multi-day severe weather threat is on the horizon for the central U.S. beginning on Tuesday. The primary zone of impact will shift to the east by Wednesday, bringing millions more Americans into the fold. The East Coast could see some of the storm activity by the end of the work week.
The upcoming weather maker is expected to bring a number of hazards, ranging from blowing dust to blizzard conditions to severe thunderstorms. Forecasters are also cautioning that the high winds will once again increase the risk of wildfire danger in areas dealing with overly dry vegetation.
Much of the region in the line of fire for the storms this week is still cleaning up from the events of the past weekend. Over 1,000 reports of severe weather were filed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The bulk of these reports came in the form of high winds, however, there were also over 100 tornadoes reported over the three-day period.
