Julian, CA — April 14, 2025 — Southern California experienced a shaky start to the week. A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Monday morning, causing tremors in communities from San Diego to Los Angeles. The seismic event quite literally rattled the substantial crowds attending the famous annual music festival in Coachella Valley.

Epicenter Revealed: Quake Hits Near Julian, California

The USGC confirmed the quake stuck at 10:08 am PDT on Monday, April 14, along the Elsinore Fault Zone— a seismically active section of the San Andras system. The epicenter was located two miles from the historic SoCal town of Julian in San Diego County, 8.3 miles beneath the surface.

Thousands Felt the Widespread Tremors

The powerful shudders were felt from San Diego to Los Angeles, reaching as far east as the Coachella Valley, where the renowned music festival was underway. A quake with a confirmed intensity of 5.2 is sufficient to rattle windows and instill a sensation similar to that of a heavy truck striking a building.
