Pleasant Halloween in Store for the Northeast
After dealing with a cold and wet Halloween in 2024, Mother Nature will reverse course this year with pleasant conditions making outdoor activities more enjoyable. The eastern third of the country can expect mostly dry weather and unseasonably warm temperatures. Residents in this part of the nation may not even need to bundle up under their Halloween costumes.
How warm will it be? The forecast is calling for widespread highs in the 70s for New England. The mercury will approach the 80-degree mark throughout the bulk of the mid-Atlantic. Major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia will see highs potentially hit the low 80s on Thursday. These readings will come in over 15 degrees above the historical average for the end of October.
There is even an outside chance that a new record high may be set in some locations. The warmest Halloween on the record books for the nation's capital city is 85 degrees, dating back to 1950. Meanwhile, the record high for this date in Philadelphia was set in 1946 when the City of Brotherly Love saw the temperature reach 82 degrees.
While the afternoon highs will be toasty, an incoming cold front will work to whip up the winds for the region. You will want to take a jacket if headed out for the evening as temperatures will fall when the breezes pick up speed.
Most of the eastern third of the U.S. will remain dry on Halloween, However, the front will spark sporadic rain showers on Thursday evening for the eastern portion of the Great Lakes. For example, Buffalo may see scattered light rain just as the evening events get underway. It will also be a windy day with winds south-southwest at 15 to 25 mph.
Heading down into the southeastern U.S., dry conditions and mild temperatures will also be the prevailing story. The only part of the region that may see rain ruin some Halloween plans will be along the eastern coast of Florida from Daytona Beach, down through Miami, and into the Keys. Trick-or-treaters should dress for the chance of rain showers at times.
It will be particularly warm in the Southeast. Cities such as Charlotte will see highs in the 80s on Thursday. The mercury will begin to inch downward after the sun sets, making for a nice night for outdoor festivities.
