Wintry Precipitation In Store For The Northeast U.S.
Alexis Thornton
8 hours agoThe Northeast is going to get smacked by the remnants of an Alberta clipper storm just as a new system forming off of the Atlantic coastline is expected to come ashore at the end of the week. Here is what you need to know about this double trouble forecast.
Duo of Storms Will Spell Travel Troubles for the Northeast and Beyond
The Alberta clipper storm that dove down from Canada before speeding across the northern Plains and the Upper Midwest has its sights set on the Northeast to close out the work week. As the weekend approaches, a different weather maker is also coming together in the Atlantic, heading back to the shoreline to meet with what is left of the clipper to create a mess in some parts of the region.
The merger of these two systems will result in accumulating snowfall and the threat of slippery roads late Friday and into Saturday for the northeastern corner of the country. Unfortunately, some of the worst conditions will begin as the Friday evening commute gets going. The clipper already delivered accumulating snowfall to parts of the northern U.S. on Thursday. For instance, cities such as Minneapolis picked up a few inches of snow out of this system.
Forecasters are warning that travel delays could be a possibility on busy stretches of interstates 80 and 90 in the Great Lakes region. The snow will also trigger the threat of air travel delays. Colder temperatures moving into the area will mean that airports may have to require de-icing operations, compounding the delays even further.
