Do not let the warm weather expected by early next week fool you. Forecasters are warning that another influx of cold temperatures is lurking by the middle of March. Here is a more detailed look at the weather whiplash on tap for the days ahead.

Cold End to the Week Will Mark Beginning of Warming Trend

It is going to be another weekend of unsettled weather for much of the Midwest and the Northeast as more storms build over the region. This rocky period of weather will be followed by the warmest temperatures since last fall for the central and eastern U.S. by the beginning of next week. However, meteorologists are warning that the polar vortex is likely to make one last appearance by the middle of the month, bringing the mercury down to winterlike levels once again.

Coming up first will be a series of weak disturbances expected to produce snow on Friday and into the weekend across portions of the north-central U.S. and the western Great Lakes. For instance, Chicago is expecting snowfall of about an inch on Friday. Temperatures will bounce around in the mid 30s for a high before slipping into the upper 20s for a fridge overnight.

Des Moines is another area that could see light snow as the work week comes to a close. The largest city in Iowa will max out with a high in the upper 30s on Friday, pairing with winds that hit speeds of 10 to 20 mph. Overnight lows will plunge to about 23 degrees before the warmup begins on Saturday.
