When Will Widespread Rain Finally Hit the Northeast?
Alexis Thornton
Last monthSome communities in the Northeast are looking at the driest October on the record books as rain becomes even more elusive. This corner of the country experienced a wet start to the month of August but has seen little moisture since that time. When will this pattern finally break? Read on for all of the details.
Warm Temperatures and No Rain Contributing to Growing Drought Conditions
Drought conditions are spreading throughout the Northeast in recent weeks. According to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor, some parts of the region are now under the designation of moderate to severe drought. A lack of moisture has paired with unseasonably warm temperatures to amplify the drought.
It was a toasty start to the work week with temperatures on Monday challenging daily records across the region. Boston recorded a new daily high when the mercury hit 83 degrees. This reading broke the previous record for the date of 82 degrees in 1920.
In addition to the heat in the Northeast, the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes will also get in on some of this warm weather. Highs are expected to hover in the 70s and 80s through Tuesday in this region. These are readings more typically seen at the end of the summer rather than the middle of fall. Forecasters believe that even more records may fall on Tuesday.
