When Will the Warmth Exit for Good in the Northeast?

Temperature Whiplash for the Northeast This Weekend
Forecasters are warning that the temperature roller coaster is expected to continue at least through the middle of November for the Northeast. While temperatures will slip at times, there are no signs that winter is here to stay. At least not quite yet.
The chilly wave of weather settling over the Northeast on Friday and Saturday will not last long. Temperatures are expected to rebound again by the end of the weekend. Although it will not be as toasty as it was this past week, the mercury is forecast to hover well over the historical average for the first week of November.
November is typically a month that sees a noticeable drop in the temperatures from the beginning of the month to the end. For instance, New York City starts the month with an average high of 59 degrees while finishing November at about 49 degrees. This plunge is even more stark in the northern reaches of the region.
The mercury started to slip on Friday as a mass of cool air pushed into the Northeast. The cold front that brought the change in the temperatures lost a bit of its power as it moved across the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley, limiting the amount of rainfall that came along for the ride. Unfortunately, this is a part of the country that could use a good round of precipitation as it continues to grapple with abnormally dry to drought conditions.
Temperatures tumbled up to 20 degrees from Thursday into Friday for the area north and west of the Appalachians. The change in the temperatures will take longer to be felt along the coastline.
