4 months agoThe calendar will flip from August to September next week, signifying the peak month of the Atlantic hurricane season. What can you expect this month for tropical weather? Here is a look at what the experts are predicting for September in the Atlantic basin and how you can best prepare for what may lie ahead.
What Will September Bring to the Tropics?
Hurricane experts are warning that the upcoming month could rival what the record-breaking year of 2020 brought. A surge in both tropical storms and hurricanes is in the long-range forecast, putting residents in areas prone to tropical weather on guard.
The statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season falls on September 10. While it is not an exact science, the weeks on either side of this date are when you can expect the most tropical activity.
In a typical year, the presence of the dry and dusty air that comes off of the coast of Africa tends to suppress tropical weather developments in the month of August. While this year's Hurricane Debby and Hurricane Ernesto formed in August, this time of the year generally sees less activity when compared to earlier and later in the season.
