Warmer Weather for the Northeast This Weekend Following Chilly Blast
Alexis Thornton
4 days agoThe roller coaster weather pattern for the Midwest and the Northeast will once again take residents on a ride this week. While this may seem like extreme weather whiplash, the yo-yo pattern is actually quite typical for the time of the year when winter refuses to budge but summer tries to take the wheel. Here is what you should expect in the days to come across the eastern half of the U.S.
Cooler Temperatures Will Precede Next Warmup in the Eastern U.S.
A mass of cooler air is tracking through the Great Lakes and the Northeast this week, coming in behind a storm that fired up late in the weekend. Although another surge of warmer temperatures will filter across the Midwest this week, it may not be able to take hold in the Northeast by the time it arrives over the weekend.
It has been a warm start to the month of March for most of the central and eastern U.S. Temperatures have hovered well above the historical average for most days. However, there have also been times when winter has tried to worm back into the picture with cooler temperatures. Snow has also stuck around in some of the northern portions of the region.
For example, the city of Pittsburgh has seen temperatures average almost 8 degrees over what is normal for March. The metro area has picked up 3 to 4 inches of snow over the last few weeks during the days when the mercury dipped to below average. It was an unseasonably chilly weekend in the Steel City with another blast of cooler weather on tap for the middle of the week.
How cool will it get in Pittsburgh? The forecast is calling for a high of just 47 degrees on Wednesday under partly cloudy skies. Winds whipping around at speeds of 10 to 20 mph from the west-northwest will amplify the chill. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 20s in this part of western Pennsylvania.
