13 hours agoThere is trouble brewing for the millions of Americans needing to travel for the holidays. Forecasters are warning that several storms are forecast to hit the West Coast in the days ahead while the central and eastern parts of the U.S. will also be under the gun for inclement travel conditions at the hands of Mother Nature. Here is what you need to know about the forecast for the holiday week.
Several Storms on Tap for the U.S. This Week
An active weather pattern will continue to snarl traffic and create the risk of widespread flight delays. The West Coast will see the Pacific storm train continue to roll ashore, raising the dangers of flooding and avalanches. Meanwhile, the Northeast will be monitoring the threat of icy and snow-covered roads just in time for Christmas.
Looking at the western U.S., one storm after another will move on land from the Pacific Ocean through the week, impacting the zone from Northern California and up through Oregon and Washington. Each storm will increase the chances of flash flooding, mudslides, and road washouts in the lower terrains and areas near the coast. Up in the mountainous terrains, residents should be prepared for snowy roads and the danger of avalanches as the snow continues to pile up as the week progresses.
The northern Plains is expecting sporadic snow showers due to a storm tracking into this region. This same weather maker will also impact the Mississippi Valley by the early part of the week, ushering in significant amounts of rain, dense fog, and thunderstorms.
Looking at a few specific forecasts due to this storm, places such as Dallas will see the chance of rain and thunderstorms increase late Monday. The metroplex is forecast to see the storms linger into Tuesday morning with rain showers hanging around in the afternoon. Highs will top out at about 63 degrees while lows will land at about the 50-degree mark on Christmas Eve.
It is shaping up to be a soggy Monday for Oklahoma City. The metro area is expecting scattered rain showers during the day that intensify overnight, sending about a quarter of an inch of rainfall across the region. Monday's forecast is calling for a high of about 57 degrees with lows bottoming out in the upper 40s. It will be a breezy day in the capital city with winds out of the south-southeast at 10 to 20 mph.
