Unsettled Weather Back in the Forecast for the North-Central U.S.

Last month

It was a busy start to the summer storm season for a large swath of the north-central U.S. A persistent storm train set up over this region at the end of June and hung on through the middle of July, triggering widespread flooding as water levels in major rivers surged and overflowed their banks.

It has been largely quiet since that time, however, meteorologists are warning that the severe storms are set to make an encore appearance in the northern Plains and the Midwest beginning early next week. Here is what you need to know about the upcoming unsettled weather forecast.

Stormy Weather Pattern Set to Return to the North-Central U.S. Next Week

Meteorologists are warning those in the north-central U.S. that the stormy weather pattern of a few weeks ago is going to re-emerge in the days ahead and renew the risk of flooding across throughout the region. The change in the weather will come at the hands of a shift in the zone of high pressure over the middle of the nation. This zone is forecast to set up over the southern Plains and Rocky Mountain region next week, prompting the shift in the overall weather pattern for areas to the north.

A series of disturbances are forecast to form in the jet stream flowing across the northern and eastern edges of the heat dome created by the area of high pressure. These disturbances will in turn fuel the development of frequent rain showers and thunderstorms.
