Temperatures will rebound this weekend and into next week across much of the U.S. as the March weather pendulum continues. But when will spring arrive for good? Here is a look at when to expect the first consistent readings in the 70s and 80s in different regions in the U.S.

Spring Season is a Tease for Most Americans at This Point

As the month of March marches on, you may be wondering when you can put away your winter coat for good. This is the time of the year when you should expect wild fluctuations in the temperatures as Mother Nature transitions from winter to spring.

When will the widespread readings in the 70s arrive for good? As of the first week of this month, many areas in the South and up into the central Plains states and the middle portions of the Mississippi and Ohio valleys have already felt the warmth of this magnitude. However, a large portion of the Northeast, the Midwest, and the Great Lakes have yet to surpass the 70-degree mark.

For areas farther to the north, the springlike temperatures will come and go in the weeks ahead. The expectation is that intrusions of cold air will continue to dip down from Canada well into April.

Northeast

The northeastern corner of the U.S. is an area that is typically slower to warm up when compared to the rest of the country. Most areas of the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast begin to sniff the 70s by the end of March. Areas on the southern fringe of the Northeast may see the 70-degree mark by the end of February for a brief period. Conversely, those in New England and upstate New York usually need to wait until the calendar flips to April.
