Extreme weather is hitting nearly every corner of the world in recent days. While a deadly typhoon is spinning across parts of Asia, wildfires in Canada have forced the evacuation of a popular national park. Here is the latest on these global weather headlines.

Typhoon Gaemi Churning Off Coast of Taiwan After Swiping the Philippines

Typhoon Gaemi, also known as Typhoon Carina, is on the move. The storm has been blamed for over a dozen fatalities after it churned offshore the Philippines. Forecasters warn that Gaemi is going to impact Taiwan and China in the coming hours and days. It is likely that Gaemi will be the strongest typhoon to roar across Taiwan in eight years.

The tropical system was the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane as of late Wednesday, meaning that it was packing maximum sustained winds of 111 to 129 mph. Gaemi is predicted to move back over the northern portion of Taiwan into early Thursday before coming out over the Taiwan Strait where it will intensify again.

The nation of Taiwan has already been hit with the heavy rainfall associated with this system. As of Thursday morning local time, over 42 inches of rain had fallen since Monday in the area of Taipingshan. Over 39 inches had been recorded since that time at Cuifenghu.
