Two Separate Storms Targeting the Northwest and Northern California

2 days agoWhile it was a mostly calm start to the weekend for the western U.S., two storms are on the horizon in the days ahead. Read on for more details about the impending pair of storm systems set to impact the West.
Two Storms on Deck for the West to Start the Week
Two major storms are forecast to move into parts of California and Oregon into the middle of the week, bringing a combination of rain and snow showers as the precipitation moves inland. One of the systems will impact the coastline of Northern California before moving to the north. The other system will impact areas farther north and into Oregon.
Although the weather will feature two distinct systems, there will be little break between the events. This means that some areas will see continual precipitation from late Sunday and through Tuesday.
The first weather maker will first move ashore in Northern California before pushing up the coast and becoming enveloped by the next storm in the duo. Another area of low pressure will come ashore after swinging around the Pacific Ocean for a few days. While the front end of the storm will bring along warmer temperatures, the forecast is signaling that the mercury will slip as the stormy pattern becomes more entrenched over the region.
A number of major metro areas will be in the impact zone of this storm beginning Sunday. San Francisco is forecast to see morning rain showers on Sunday with just a brief break before the arrival of the next system. Highs on Sunday will hover in the low 60s before dipping to about 52 degrees overnight as the second system takes aim.
Crescent City, California, is in an area that will take the brunt of the impacts. This city on the border with Oregon is forecast to pick up a half of an inch of rain on Sunday during the day with another inch possible after the sun goes down. It will be a miserable day with winds out of the south-southeast at 20 to 30 mph. The forecast is predicting highs in the mid 50s with lows bottoming out at about 45 degrees.
Meteorologists anticipate that the system will persist in its northerly track on Sunday, reaching Portland by the end of the day. Portland is predicted to see highs reach about 63 degrees before the rain arrives with lows that hover in the mid 40s.
