The British Isles are about to get hit by a rash of severe weather in the coming days. In addition to Tropical Wind and Rainstorm Ernesto, the region will also be under the gun for another significant weather maker.

Here is what you can expect in this corner of the world as well as the latest on a deadly tornado that sank a luxury yacht in the waters of Italy.

Britain Braces for Ernesto

It is going to be a soggy stretch of days for the British Isles as Ernesto makes its way through the North Atlantic and into parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The rain and wind will unleash a number of disruptions through the end of the week. In addition to the threat of flash flooding, Ernesto will raise the risk of wind damage.

Ernesto was rated as a Category 1 hurricane when it skirted the southeastern corner of Newfoundland in Atlantic Canada on Monday night.

The storm passed approximately 70 miles to the southeast of Cape Race after moving directly over Bermuda early in the weekend. The feature has been downgraded to a tropical wind and rainstorm as it moves across the cooler waters in this part of the Atlantic basin.

The feature will continue to lose a bit of intensity as it approaches the British Isles late Wednesday and into early Thursday. Ernesto is also picking up more forward speed, hitting a rate as high as 50 mph. The good news is that this fast speed will work to mitigate its impacts when it arrives on land.
