Times of Extreme Heat in Store for the Pacific Northwest

5 months agoThe northwestern corner of the U.S. is going to see intermittent surges of heat over the next few days with some daily high records potentially falling by the weekend. Here is a look at the toasty forecast for this part of the country.
Periodic Bouts of Heat for the Pacific Northwest
The Pacific Northwest is in store for some intense heat through the weekend, getting in on some of the hot temperatures that have gripped the interior portions of the West recently. The heat is the result of a northward bulge across the jet stream pairing with a large zone of high pressure.
A series of weather disturbances will try to push in from the Pacific Ocean at times, bringing the temperatures down along with them. However, periodic surges will also translate to warmer temperatures for brief periods.
For instance, after seeing cooler readings on Monday, Tuesday's highs climbed back into the upper 80s across the Seattle area. It was even warmer in Portland with highs in the 90s. This mass of heat will push into the interior portions of the region on Wednesday with temperatures expected to approach the century mark in places such as Spokane, Washington.
