Invasive animals are one of the greatest threats to biodiversity worldwide, and the U.S. is no exception. These are non-native animals that were introduced to new environments where they outcompete, prey upon, or otherwise harm the native species.

Invasive Animals to Know

Once established, invasive species can cause significant ecological, economic, and even public health challenges. In the U.S. alone, these animals have left their mark, devastating certain ecosystems and altering entire landscapes. Let’s take a look at some of the most invasive, how they got here, and their devastating impact.

Feral Swine

Feral swine, or wild boar, are one of the most invasive species in the U.S. These wild animals look a lot like domesticated hogs, with a few exceptions. They’re a little bit thinner, have thicker hides, and longer tusks.
