Sadly, tornadoes are one of nature’s most powerful and destructive forces. They’ve been known to wipe out entire communities within minutes. They’re sometimes hard to predict and oftentimes utterly devastating.
Although there are a few different types of tornadoes, it’s helpful to know how they form, what to expect when supercells come into the picture, and how to know when it’s time to run.
Types of Tornadoes
In order to understand the different types of tornadoes, it’s helpful to first understand how they form. In effect, tornadoes are the result of a severe thunderstorm, usually a supercell, characterized by a rotating updraft known as a mesocyclone.
