Start of Week Will Bring More Stormy Conditions to Much of Plains
Alexis Thornton
6 months agoThe early part of the week will be marked by the continuation of severe storms in the Plains states and over into the lower Mississippi Valley. Potential impacts of this series of disturbances include strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain that triggers flash flooding. Here is what you need to know about the rocky forecast in this part of the country.
Stormy Pattern to Continue for the Plains and Beyond
The Plains states will be under the gun for more storm development to start the week, posing threats to lives and property in the region. The unsettled weather will be a continuation of the storms that have been rattling the region over the last several days. Thunderstorms brought the work week to a close on Friday across south-central Nebraska and into Kansas, eastern Colorado, and western Oklahoma.
Saturday's storms affected a zone from eastern Colorado and into southern Missouri, bringing high winds and large hail to those in the path. By Sunday, the storms had expanded to a larger area from the northern Rockies to the southeastern U.S.
The good news for those in northeastern Texas is that the weekend storms remained tethered to the north, helping to keep flooding concerns at bay as secondary rivers in the region continue to see rising water levels. Portions of the Sabine, Trinity, and Niches rivers have been measuring well over flood stage, raising the risk of major flooding in the region. Forecasters warn that this flooding will remain a concern even if no moisture falls over the impacted area.
