Southern Hemisphere Notches 6 Tropical Features This Week

8 hours agoAlthough the Northern Hemisphere is still months away from hurricane season firing up, the Southern Hemisphere is right in the thick of it. As of Tuesday, six tropical storms were churning in this part of the world. Here is a look at what is happening in the ocean waters of the Southern Hemisphere.
Latest Update on the Tropics in the Southern Hemisphere
Six different tropical events were roaming the oceans of the Southern Hemisphere on Tuesday. This includes tropical cyclones that ignited in the South Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, good enough to tie the record for the highest number of simultaneous storms in this part of the basin. Meanwhile, another three cyclones were spinning in the Southern Indian Ocean.
You have to go back to January of 1999 to find the last time that three tropical cyclones were menacing the South Pacific at the same time. During this event, Dani, Olina, and Pete were all alive at the same time.
Tropical Cyclone Honde formed off of the coast of Mozambique, Africa. This storm came to life at about 4 pm EST on Tuesday. Honde formed at about the same time that the last advisory for Cyclone Rae was issued. Rae was responsible for causing damage throughout the Fiji Islands on Monday.
