Severe Storms Erupt and Kill One Person in Indiana Monday

A line of storm cells pushed through the Midwest on Monday afternoon, evening, and overnight, killing at least one person as winds hit speeds of over 100 mph. Here is the latest reporting on this event as well as what to expect of severe weather in the coming days.

Tornado Reported in Chicago

Storms packing powerful winds tore through the Midwest on Monday, bringing down trees and causing significant damage. One fatality was reported when a tree crashed down on a home in Cedar Lake, Indiana, located about 30 miles to the southeast of Chicago.

The northern edge of Illinois took the brunt of the storm and high winds. The town of Camp Grove, Indiana measured a wind gust of 105 mph, the same level as a Category 2 hurricane. Almost 300,000 customers were still without power on Tuesday morning across parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana.
