Police are currently investigating the theft of around 100,000 organic eggs from inside of a distribution trailer in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. According to state authorities, the distribution trailer belonged to Pete & Gerry's Organics of Greencastle. News of the crime highlights an outbreak-related egg scarcity that has resulted in record-breaking prices and strained the nationwide supply chain since the start of the year.
Crime Details and Immediate Response
On February 1, 2025, thieves broke into a distribution trailer at approximately 8:40 p.m. in Antrim Township, Franklin County. The criminals stole thousands of eggs with a total sum valued at $40,000. Although Pennsylvania state trooper Megan Frazer has obtained video surveillance footage of the incident, investigators have yet to identify or name any suspects in the case. As well-known egg producers in the region, the affected business remains compliant with the state and local search.
"Pete and Gerry's is aware of the incident," the company released in a statement. The business owners reiterated that they are cooperating with the local jurisdiction to find answers about the Saturday night crime. "We take this matter seriously and are committed to resolving it," the spokesperson said. However, the company declined to provide further information pending the ongoing police investigation.
