There is no stopping the winter weather machine in the eastern U.S. More wintry conditions are on the way for millions of Americans in the coming days thanks to multiple storms that are coming together. Although none of the storms will pack a historic punch on its own, the accumulation and headaches could add up in some places. Here is a look at this wintry forecast.

Winter Weather Bearing Down on the Central and Eastern U.S.

A large part of the nation stretching from the Midwest to the Atlantic Seaboard will be under the gun for an extended period of winter weather through at least Monday. The series of storms are forecast to deliver a multitude of impacts ranging from ice to rain to snow.

None of the storms are expected to be blockbuster events. However, the size of the impact zone will translate to disruptions that accumulate over time. Because there are so many different systems taking root, it has been challenging for forecasters to nail down the precise timing and track of each storm. The bottom line is that the eastern two-thirds of the country will want to be aware of the good potential of winter weather in the days ahead.

Alberta Clipper Storm Up First

The initial storm will take the form of an Alberta clipper, spreading snow from the Midwest and into the central portion of the Appalachians. You can expect this storm to first fire up late Wednesday. The snow will continue into Thursday night.

This clipper event is expected to produce a general 1 to 3 inches of snow with some parts of the Great Lakes and the higher terrains from West Virginia and into southwestern Pennsylvania picking up locally higher amounts of accumulation. Periodic bursts of snow may push to the east of the Appalachians and as far east as the Interstate 95 corridor stretching from New England and into the mid-Atlantic. The chance of light snow for the populated Interstate 95 corridor will likely hit just in time for the Thursday evening commute.

Cleveland will see the snow develop after midnight and into early Thursday. Snow accumulations of less than an inch are forecast for the overnight hours with 1 to 3 inches on the horizon for Thursday. Highs will top out at about the freezing mark, however, winds out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph will make it feel even chillier. This particular snow event will wrap overnight Thursday with a low of 28 degrees in the forecast.

The moisture associated with the clipper storm is also headed to Pittsburgh. The Steel City is looking at about 1 to 3 inches of accumulation on Thursday. There will be little variation in the temperatures in the metro area with a high of about 30 degrees and an expected low in the upper 20s. It will also be breezy in this part of western Pennsylvania with winds out of the southwest at 10 to 15 mph.

The snow will take longer to arrive in Appalachia, hitting places such as Morgantown, West Virginia on Thursday. The college town is expecting 1 to 3 inches of snow out of this clipper storm. Another inch of snow is possible after the sun goes down. The forecast is calling for a high of 33 degrees and a low in the upper 20s on Thursday.
