Warmth and Santa Ana Winds in the Forecast for Southern California
It is beginning to feel like summer across the interior portions of the Desert Southwest this week. The mercury is on the upswing in major cities such as Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs. Temperatures are forecast to climb to up to 20 degrees over the historical average in these areas.
For instance, Phoenix could break its daily record highs of 91 and 92 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday. Both of these records date back to 1986. The Valley of the Sun is expecting temperatures to hover around the 90-degree mark on these days under mostly sunny skies. Record-challenging temperatures will also be the story for Las Vegas and Palm Springs by the middle of the week.
For instance, Palm Springs will hit a high in the low 90s on Wednesday under plentiful sunshine. Overnight lows will slip to about 62 degrees in this desert resort area in the Golden State.
Local officials are warning residents and tourists that the heat may catch some off guard. This is not the time of the year when people are prepared for heat of this magnitude. The dry conditions will encourage outdoor activities, making it important to stay hydrated and respect the power of Mother Nature.
