Latest Update on Raging Wildfires in Southern California

Fire crews in California are making progress on the numerous wildfires burning in the Los Angeles area, however, at least 180,000 residents are still under evacuation orders. Here is the latest on this apocalyptic situation that is ongoing in Southern California.

Update on California Wildfires

Red flag warnings remain in effect for Los Angeles County and a large portion of Ventura County on Thursday as high winds fuel the flames of several fires burning throughout the region. Five fatalities have been confirmed thus far as a result of natural disaster as local officials warn that this number is likely to grow. Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone also confirmed that several severe injuries have been reported.

The largest fire, the Palisades Fire, has burned over 17,000 acres as of Thursday morning and is 0% contained. This blaze is now distinguished as being the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history with at least 1,000 structures confirmed to be completely destroyed. The Palisades Fire got its name from the Pacific Palisades neighborhood where it began, a community located about 10 miles from Malibu.

All five of the confirmed deaths have been blamed on the Eaton Fire, an inferno that has torched at least 10,600 acres and is 0% contained. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), over 100 structures have been destroyed at the hands of this inferno. There are still 13,000 structures in its path, making the containment of this fire a high priority for crews. Nearly all of the community of Altadena has been evacuated as a result of the Eaton Fire.
