The city, unfortunately, failed to comply with the order by its deadline and a federal judge recently held it in civil contempt.
When the Lead Pipe Replacement Crisis Started
It was seven years ago that the city of Flint agreed to fix the lead problem. Part of the deal involved the city promising to replace lead lines in all affected homes by 2020 and to fix damage to sidewalks, curbs and driveways.
In February 2023, it was brought to the attention of the city that it was not in compliance with the deal and an order was set in place to enforce the agreement.
