Inches of Rain Set to Fall Across Coastal Pacific Northwest Through Early Next Week

10 months agoThe end of the month is not going to bring any relief to the water-logged Pacific Northwest. The storm train is forecast to continue to fire up in the Pacific Ocean and move through the region as the month of January comes to a close. Here is what you need to know about the upcoming soggy weather pattern in this corner of the U.S.
Wet January Marches on in the Northwest
It has already been an unseasonably wet month for much of the Pacific Northwest. The upcoming forecast is indicating that this pattern will linger as the calendar flips to February. Some parts of the region will end up with over a foot of rain for the month by the time the next system moves through.
The relentless storms will create the risk of flooding through the next week thanks to an atmospheric river that will stretch from the Pacific Ocean and into British Columbia, Canada and the Northwest. This atmospheric river will usher in a steady stream of moisture in the coming days, resulting in rainfall that could exceed a foot in the hardest-hit areas.
This particularly atmospheric river is forecast to remain over the northern part of the West Coast with California dodging the bulk of the rain. This is good news for the saturated areas of San Diego that were under a state of emergency earlier in the week after a deluge of heavy rain that generated flooding and mudslides.
