As the summer heat fades, the air gets crisper, and the leaves start to glow with vibrant hues of reds, oranges, and yellows, we know it’s officially time to say, “Happy fall!”

But, do you know what truly kicks off this beautiful season? It’s the autumn equinox, an astronomical event that marks the transition into the fall season.

You might have heard about the fall equinox in passing or remember it from science class, but let’s take a moment to dive a little deeper into its meaning, significance, and why the moment when day and night are in perfect balance is so perfectly spectacular.

Happy Fall!

First, let’s discuss what makes it happy fall, y’all. It all begins with the first day of fall, which is Sunday, September 22nd at 8:44 am EST. On this day, the length of the day and the length of the night are nearly equal – about 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night, give or take a few minutes depending on where you live.
